making it work for you

Staying off site can be a great way to attend Word Alive. But if you haven’t done it before there are plenty of questions that come to mind.

We’ve aimed to answer those questions below, as well as give suggestions of where you might stay, so do read below. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

You can also download a brochure specifically aimed at staying off site!

where to park

We plan for off site guests to be able to park on site or nearby each day. When you  arrive at Pontins stewards will tell you where you there is space to park.

The map shows you where you can park nearby and how you can then access the site.

Please park legally.

Disabled Guests

There is some limited parking on site for disabled guests.

Please make yourself known to a steward who will be at the main gate and they will give you a sign to display in your car and show you where to park.

WA OFF SITE Page 6 Image 0001

There is a charge to park for the day in the car parks shown. Some local roads don’t have parking restrictions, e.g. roads leading off Bastion Road.

food on site

Coming to Word Alive from your off site accommodation raises the question of what you’ll do during meal times. There are a variety of options available to you:

Food Vans

Anything from a coffee and
pastry, filled paninis and jacket
potatoes, to a pizza or burger.

Pontins Restaurant

You can buy lunch or an evening
meal at their restaurant.

Fish & Chips

Pontins have a fish and chip shop open during the event.

Bring your own!

Some guests bring a packed
lunch or tea.

Nisa Supermarket

You can buy snacks and drinks
here as well as other basic
grocery items.

Word Alive Cafe & Java Cafe

There are two cafes serving drinks
and snacks.

a place to hang out

Not having your own chalet might make you ask, where can we sit down during the day?

If you know others at the event with their own chalet we hope they’ll invite you in for coffee.

In addition, the Fun Factory has lots of tables and chairs available. There are sofas on the stage which you can feel free to make use of. In 2019 the activity marquee was extended to make room for more tables and chairs as a place to hang out and this will be repeated in 2020.

There is also a seating area next to Pontins' reception.

If you stay off site, you’ll need event passes to attend Word Alive which you can purchase here.

other info

Live Stream

We will live stream the morning Bible Readings and Evening
Celebrations in the Great Marquee. That means, if you have
access to the internet, you can watch those meetings from your accommodation. It’s like having your own Chalet TV! That might be useful if you have young children who need to get to bed or feel like a slow start one day. To access the
live stream just visit our website during the event and follow the link.

Access Points

It’s worth knowing there are three points of entry to the Word
Alive site as one may be more convenient for you:

  1. Pontins main entrance
  2. Beach gate at the north end of the site next to the Beaches Hotel.
  3. Side gate on the west of the site at the end of Bastion Gardens.

These will have a combination padlocks on them. We will give you the code at the event so you can come and go as you choose.

extra tips for students

Off site accommodation can be a great alternative for CU students at Word Alive!

Off site accomodation is often more affordable, and spaces aren’t limited in the way on site accomodation is.

  • Talk to your CU Staff Worker or group organiser to let them know if you aim to book off site accommodation
  • off site CU students receive a free hot drink voucher for the Word Alive café each day - don’t forget to claim it!
  • Remember you’ll need to get both an off site pass from word alive and book somewhere to sleep off site
  • Your off site passes are half price
  • Please note that most private caravan parks don’t allow single sex bookings to prevent stag and hen parties, so you may wish to contact the owners to see if there is any lee-way.  Here is some suggested wording: "We are a single sex group wishing to book this caravan. We are attending a local Christian conference that takes place locally each year. The event is ‘Word Alive’ and can you can see details of the event here: https://wordaliveevent.org. Due to our Christian values we do wish to book a single sex caravan, and we wonder if you could make an exception in our circumstance for our booking. If you have any further questions please do get in touch."
  • If you have any further questions about booking off site accommodation, please ask your CU Staff Worker in the first instance or contact info@uccf.org.uk or mail@wordaliveevent.org
