Frequently asked questions about Word Alive 2020

25 March 2020

Since our annoucement that Word Alive 2020 isn’t happening we’ve received lots of enquiries – here are some of the most common.

Why isn’t Word Alive going ahead?

The increasing restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have led Pontins to close all their sites (on Friday 20 March). This means that Word Alive cannot happen this year.

Can I transfer my booking to next year?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your booking to 2021.

Will I get a refund?

We are delighted we can offer full refunds for:

- On site accommodation
- Half board meals
- Event passes

Can I convert the money I’ve already spent into a donation to Word Alive?

Yes, you can – and we are incredibly grateful to all those who have already emailed to let us know this is what you would like to do. There is an option to do this on the refund form where you will need to formally indicate your choice, and if you are a UK taxpayer we will also be able to claim Gift Aid on your donation too.

Is Word Alive going to happen next year?

We have every hope that Word Alive 2021 will go ahead. But until our financial situation is clearer, we are unable to give a definite answer.

Are you going to make any talks from Word Alive 2020 available online?

We aren’t able to produce any of the planned programme for Word Alive 2020 but will show some material from a previous Word Alive on our YouTube channel. Please visit our Word Alive Re-Lived page.

I’ve booked off-site accommodation and want to move my booking to next year, what are the dates for Word Alive 2021?

Provisional dates for next year are Tuesday 6 to Sunday 11 April 2021. Please be aware that in the circumstances we can’t confirm these dates yet.

How can I contact you?

Our staff are fully complying with government instructions by working from home for the foreseeable future. This means there’s no one in the office to answer the phone, although we are still picking up voice messages throughout the day. The best way to get in touch is to email us at with any enquiries, and we will respond to you as promptly as we are able.
